Domus T7- Design Direction

I saw this image of a meandering river in Kakadu; a similar concept assisted in freeing up our floorplan (below). I feel the spaces seem to meet more harmoniously, compared with the 'ad lib' attachments of our earlier work (Bottom).

Project Domus is complete, and has turned out to be very successful for group T2. We presented our work today which I have listed above for all to see. The critics were impressed with our design and the presentation of it. They believed we had completed a design that suited and complimented the landscape it was placed upon, and by our investigations into all the services we had planned to use it was obvious that it was a building that was self sustainable and did not take from the land. They enjoyed the journey from the entrance down along the coridoor and into the sleeping pods, then back on out to the decks surrounded by nature and the overall design which was organic. A few points of improvement was the lack of accessability for disabled people, they believed we should have designed more for this due to the first year studies regarding this situation, but our group was made up of four team members who were new to Deakin this year and were not informed of this, we were also under the impresson that residential building didn't need full disabled access. They also suggested that the toilet was not needed in the work space, we added it incase clients came to discuss future projects and didn't want them using our bathrooms located in the pods, a privacy aspect. But we were happy with the comments and constructive critisism we were offerred and will try to incorperate it into our future design works.
After many late nights, or even all nights from some members in the team, it became worth it with a mark of HD. Thankyou to all that helped our team achieve this result, espacially Ron, our tutorer. I now look forward to Archi2B. Cheers

T3 - DOMUS model

These are some pictures of our final Domus model.  The ventilation we tried to achieve throughout our building can clearly be seen in the model, as the slats are open.  We also showed some of the front panels  opening up, which, when the sun was shining on the model created interesting light patterns on the front decking.   We allowed the roof to lift off the model, so the the interior floor plan would be visible.  Also we created a very large site plan, which meant that you could gain a better understanding of how the building fitted in with its landscape.

Domus T7 - Final Idea (Architecture of Contradiction0

Below are our final floor and roofing plans. We like to think we have created some sore of tension between the rigidity and functionality of the raised decking and the sleek curve which sits within it. As you approach this building it tells you it is a rectangle, yet ascending the stairs you are confronted by a curve. Ive heard this is called 'Architecture of contradiction.' Does anyone know otherwise?

Here is one of the images i found most relevant to the final concept while surfing Google images for 'sleek' buildings. it too is raised off the ground and snakes its way across a flat plane. I have been told that Frank Gehry's dancing building (below) also displays enigmatic tension we are trying to associate with.

Domus T7 -Segregation of space

Weve finally agreed upon the segregation of our spaces (above) and you can see how we have adapted it to our elevations (below). Ive also thrown in our poster heading, which we really like. It looks a bit like a Dan Brown novel title!

Hey, what do you think about this, i have tried to do the Thomas Herzog, air movemets. Would this show the roof section better than the coloured one seen previously??? Cheers

just an idea....i not sure if this is what we want but just something to think about...could make it a bit softer by making it a lighter....it depend on what we want...i do like the colour but i think it focuses more on the image then our building...our building seems to be white space, we loose the roof line...

Domus update!

This floor plan was designed completed in autocad and shown to our tutorer Ron today, who really liked the natural and organic lines shown down the south side of the coridoor, so much so that he thinks we do more of this style and really make it a feature throughout the design. He is still under the belief that it is to rigid. We now plan to make the whole coridoor and decks to curve in and out, making it like a journey down through the coridoor from the entry to the decks. we'll see how we go before the presentations next week, lot of late nights to come i say!

The above are the East Section and Elevation. There is also a college of photo's of our site in Kakadu, i have pu this together to illistrate visually the aspects of our site. There is also another section illistrating the air flow in our building.

Abov eis the worked floor plan design for project domus, where we have now added furniture to determine room sizes. it is looking like the plan will be a suitably comfortable size and the team is happy with it to this point but are thinking it is a little rigid in its lines. And due to the fact we are in a bush setting we are going to change just some of the angles to be more organic and natural to suit the location, it should also contrast well against the straight lines already existant.

just some ideas we have had....we are using the timber slats (with fly screen)in our final design; to allow breeze in, can be easily opened and closed (would work similar to a glass blind louvre system but made from timber), fly screen to keep bugs out (incorporated into timber slat system)

Domus T7 - Further Concept Ideas

Weve taken the multi-zone concept a little further and linked the areas by a deck. We thought of incorporating a second story, shaded amongst the canopy which we will grow through the deck. The predominant construction material will be fly-wire, adding transparency. I think this elevation sketch works best at describing this

Floor Plan Design 1 for Domus

This was a floor plan I design before yesterdays tute session with Ron, who thought it had a lot of potential for our domus design. i went for a very symmetrical design where all the lines used are only set on three angles, them being horizontal, vertical and on a slant of 30 degrees.things already need to be adjust on it, like the coridoor which will now be a straight design so you can see the west door from the front one.we will spend the week ahead seeing what we can do to make it a great design.

2nd Time Round Domus Concept Ideas

Seeing that our 1st concept idea was knocked back the group chose to spend the week apart and all come up with atleast two completely new concepts for the next tute session which was held yesterday. (sorry my last post was meant to be put up a week ago but i got behind time).
Above are some of the ideas in sketch form that were produced within the week.we still weren't set on a certain concept, but the floor plan that i will post seperately we came to like very quickly and so did our tutorer, so I think it has a lot of potential, but still a lot of work to be done!

CONCEPT IDEAS FOR PROJECT DOMUS.RYAN PLUNKETT

Hi everyone, thought i'd post our progress to date. This is the design concept we had been working on during the week for project domus, it is a split level dwelling which comprisses three areas, them being work, sleep and living area. As you can see from the plan above the three areas are set on different angles to capture the view of the bells beach bush setting.
However, when we had our meeting with our tutorer Ron yesterday he felt our concept idea was not yet strong enough and that our design lacked creativity, after sleeping on it I now see where he is coming from. So although we are heading back to the drawing board, there are a couple of aspects we plan to take from the time we have already used up. The team is a fan of the split level areas, as we see it working well on the sloping site, and we also still plan to investigate the seperation of the three main areas. see how we go in the week to come and hopefully we can create a stronger concept to build upon. thanks!
