As we worked on our sketches, thumbnails and developing our roof, we studied some architects works. Glen Murcott was a fantastic example, as the majority of his works are in Australia, and in the same climate or similar as our Bells Beach Victorian site.
The Magney House in Bingle Pt, Moruya on the New South Wales South Coast (1982 - 84).
This house had particular significance due to it's location from the coast, and the design for gathering the most northern sunlight. It is stretching across a barren, wind-swept site overlooking the ocean. Another particular element is the roof design - long and low and from corrugated metal sheathing.
Louvre blinds at the windows help regulate the light and temperature.
Other works that we looked into was the Marika - Alderton House, Yirrkala Community (1991 - 94) which was in a similar setting to our Domus site. We particularly looked into the solar panels and corrugated roof design.
